India lift the first-ever Twenty20 Championship.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's young Indian team snatched the inaugural Twenty20 world title after defeating arch-rivals Pakistan by five runs in a thrilling final on Monday.

India restricted to 157-5 after a good start, before reducing Pakistan to 104-7 off 16 overs. Sohail Tanvir then hit 12 runs off four balls with two huge sixes to bring Pakistan back in contention, in front of a sell-out crowd of 32,000 at the Wanderers.

Misbah and his tail-end partners took 19 runs in the 17th over bowled by spinner Harbhajan Singh, 13 in the 18th of Shanthakumaran Sreesanth and seven runs in the 19th from Rudra Pratap Singh, leaving 13 to get off the final over.

Joginder Sharma bowled a wide off the first ball and was hammered for a six by Misbah with the second legitimate ball, but gave India victory with his next delivery by taking the wicket of Misbah-ul-Haque.

Rudra Pratap and Irfan Pathan claimed three wickets each as Pakistan's jinx of never having beaten India in a World Cup or world championship match continued.

India take home the winner's purse of 490,000 dollars while Pakistan received no prize money for their efforts in the final.

The final at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Monday will be the first major title clash between India and Pakistan since the limited-overs world championship of cricket in Melbourne in 1985.

Less than six months after both sides returned in disgrace from the 50-over World Cup, where they were out in the first round only, with entirely new and young team, they reach the finals of Twenty20 world cup.

Rookie Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik and incoming India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni have the chance to lift a major trophy after a tournament that has packed in more thrills and close finishes.

"India-Pakistan is always a huge competition. It's just like a dream for us," said hero of the
semifinal forIndia Yuraj Singh after smashing 70 off just 30 balls.

Any team can win the final, as both the teams are young, but it is going to be a exciting and thrilling final between two arch-rivals.

In the first semi final of Twenty20 world cup, Pkista easily beat New Zealand by 6 wickets to play a dream final against bitter rivals India on Monday at Johanesberg.

India beat favourites Australia by 15 runs in 2nd Semifinalto set up a mouth-watering final against Pakistan in the Twenty20 world cup.

Yuvraj Singh smashed 70 off 30 balls as India made 188-5 and then restricted Australia to 173-7 in a thrilling semi-final. Australia, needing 27 off the last 12 balls, but managed only 12 runs.

India snatched a dramatic 37-run victory over hosts South Africa on Thursday to storm into the semi-finals of the Twenty20 world cup.

Debutant Rohit Sharma made an unbeaten 50 off 40 balls, reaching his half-century off the final delivery with a six and captain MS Dhoni hit 45 off 33 balls with four boundaries and a six.

In an unexpected turn of events, South Africa not only lost a match they appeared to be winning but failed to make 126 that would have helped them pip New Zealand on run-rate.

South Africa needed 17 off the final over to reach the magic figure of 126, but they managed only 7 runs.

Six sixes in Six balls, a great inning by Yuraj Singh as he entered his name in record books to score six sixes in an over in Twenty20 cricket and also for scoring fastest 50 in just 12 balls.

Yuvraj's blistering knock came after openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir set the platform with a 136-run stand by the 15th over. Sehwag made 68 off 52 balls and Gambhir hit 58 off 41 balls.

Hosts defeated West Indies by eight wickets thanks to fantastic performances by Herschelle Gibbs, who made an unbeaten 90 off 54 balls and Justin Kemp an unbeaten 46 off 23 balls to see South Africa home with 14 deliveries to spare.

West Indies put a fighting total of 205- 6 in 20 overs with the first-ever century in Twenty20 cricket, by Chris Gayle who hammered 117 off 57 balls, with 7 fours and 10 sixes.

Twenty20 Cricket is a new and shorter version of cricket. The purpose to introduce Twenty20 Cricket is to compete other popular sports like Football, tennis etc, bcoz this version of cricket takes less time compare to One day international. Twenty20 Cricket takes only 75 minutes to complete 1 inning. The Twenty20 Cricket Rules are also very interesting to enhance the interest of the game.

To popularize Twenty20 Cricket, the cricket's governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has organized Twenty20 Cricket World Cup. The inaugural Twenty20 Cricket World Cup is is going to be held in South Africa in September 2007. ICC has Planned to held Twenty20 Cricket World Cup in every two years.

Twenty20 Cricket World Cup scheduled to take place in South Africa from September 11 to September 24, 2007. It will be the first Twenty20 Cricket World Cup, complete in 10 days.

The world Cup will consists of 12 teams, i.e. 9 test playing nations plus 3 qualifiers. The 12 teams are divided into four groups of three teams each.

All Twenty20 Cricket World Cup matches will be played at the following three grounds:
